What does a registered agent actually do?

They sit at a physical Maine address during business hours and accept legal papers, court filings, and state correspondence for your business. Then they get those documents into your hands — in our case, scanned and emailed the same business day, not mailed out days later. That is the entire job, done fast.

Who qualifies under Maine law?

An individual 18 or older with a physical Maine address, or a business entity authorized in Maine. Maine follows the Model Registered Agents Act. Your own company cannot serve as its own agent. PO boxes do not work.

How much do you charge?

$99 per year covers the full agent role — address, scanning, portal, compliance reminders. No setup fee.

How fast do I get my documents?

Same business day they arrive. We scan immediately upon receipt and upload to your portal. The email notification goes out right after. Most clients see documents within hours of physical delivery.

Can I be my own agent in Maine?

Not as a business entity — Maine prohibits that. You can serve individually if you are a Maine resident with a physical address and you are willing to be present every business day. But your address goes on the public record and you cannot miss a single delivery window.

How do I switch to you from another agent?

Enroll with us, and we hand you the change form with our details pre-filled. You submit it to the Maine Secretary of State with the filing fee ($15 for nonprofits, $35 for for-profits). Once processed, documents route to our office.

When is the Maine annual report due?

June 1 each year. Domestic LLCs pay $85, foreign LLCs pay $150. We send reminders ahead of the deadline so you file on time.

What if I miss the annual report?

Late fees, loss of good standing, and eventually administrative dissolution. A dissolved entity cannot conduct business or defend itself in court until reinstated. Reinstatement costs more than filing on time.

Do you handle LLC formations?

Yes. Our $199 formation service drafts and files your Articles of Organization with the Maine Secretary of State — their $175 filing fee is separate and goes straight to the state. Either way you file, list us as your registered agent and we are ready to receive documents from day one.

Do you accept regular business mail alongside legal documents?

If a piece of everyday government mail — a state notice, an IRS letter — accidentally arrives at your Maine registered agent address, we scan and email it to you free of charge for your first three pieces each calendar year. Past that allowance, or if you want the physical piece mailed to you instead of just the scan, that is a separate per-piece charge.

Our actual service covers legal documents: service of process, lawsuits, subpoenas, Secretary of State correspondence, state tax notices, and compliance reminders. That is the purpose of a registered agent address.

We will not accept packages, Google Maps verification postcards, Amazon verification letters, or any other third-party verification mailings. We are not a general mailbox or virtual office provider.

Is my home address exposed if I use you?

No. Our physical Maine address appears on all your public filings. Your home or personal office stays off state databases entirely.
